May’s program will be our annual meeting at Arcosanti. The program will be on Thursday, May 19th and will be a talk by Paola Soleri himself followed by a delicious home cooked dinner by Arcosanti residents. We will meet at 4pm in the visitor center, presentation at 4:30pm. If you would like a tour please be there at 3pm for the tour presented by Arcosanti staff. Universal Design” Designing for Social Sustainability by Chris Lanterman-NAU “Universal design…is an orientation to any design process that begins with a responsibility to the experience of the user” (Institute for Human-Centered Design, 2011). Designing residential, public, and commercial facilities that are responsive to the range of potential users, including children, older adults, individuals with disabilities, and visitors from other lands, adds to the social sustainability of a community. We will discuss the principles of universal design, various applications of these principles, and how they can support environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
