AIA-GCC is pleased to announce that William Otwell, AIA will join our Board in 2015 as President-Elect and will serve as the Chapter President in 2016.
Bill is principal of Otwell Associates Architects, Prescott, AZ. His firm specializes in historic preservation, solar and energy efficient design, and the preservation of natural features. A native Arizonan, Bill’s firm was formed in 1979 and has been responsible for most of the restoration projects in Prescott.
Please join me in welcoming Bill to our Board. Bill has offered to give a presentation on his work at the Courthouse in Prescott at our February 2015 monthly meeting.

Greetings fellow Architect! I am truly honored to have been selected as President of the AIA Grand Canyon Chapter for the 2014 term.
Let me first express how grateful I am for my fellow board members:

The work these board members do to support our chapter is admirable and their dedication should be applauded. I especially thank Richard Davis, Past President, for his term of service and dedication to the chapter. He did a fantastic job for all of us and will continue to serve as Past President to ensure a smooth transition. I would like to make sure you have all of the information regarding our organization. We have been meeting to plan a full year of valuable learning and networking experiences for you. As we plan for the coming year, I welcome your thoughts and suggestions on how we can ensure AIA-GCC is providing the professional development that meets your needs. Annual December Member Meeting in Prescott, December 10th. November 12th Member meeting in Payson! We will meet at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge just outside Payson for a Lunch and Learn. October 8th meeting at the Grand Canyon! Meeting open to all AIA members- The Friday, October 8th Meeting of the Grand Canyon Chapter will be a special presentation on the South rim of the Grand Canyon. Morgan O’Connor, Environmental Director of the Grand Canyon Railway, will talk about the innovative sustainable projects the railway and the Concessionaire of the Grand Canyon are undertaking to tread more lightly on the earth. In his two years at the GCR, Morgan has developed, implemented, and maintained environmental strategies and programs aimed at reducing the GCR’s carbon footprint. Joel Southall, Director of Environmental Affairs, Xanterra South Rim Grand Canyon will share what the Concessaire Xanterra is doing at the National Parks to help keep the environment ‘green’. We will have a scrumptious dinner overlooking the beautiful Grand Canyon, which is paid by AIA Grand Canyon Chapter for all AIA Arizona members. Thursday,September 2nd Meeting of the AIA Grand Canyon Chapter- CEU presentation from Lutron – 5:30pm, Weatherford Hotel-Flagstaff. This presentation will also give Credential Maintenance Program credits for LEED-AP’s so come get a credit for two professions at once! Food provided. Please join us for a tour and tasting at the new Lumberyard Taproom and Grill! This restaurant and brewery is scheduled to receive the 2010 Coconino County Sustainable Building Award and includes many sustainable features such as: City reclaimed water used for landscape needs, repaired and reused original building trusses, roof metal and old lumber was re- purposed for the bar and dining area and water saving toilets and urinals installed in the bathrooms. Other important sustainable features include the use of local contractors and local products. Tour will be provided by Architect Ryan Smith and owner Winnie Hanseth.
