October 15th meeting at the Grand Canyon! Meeting open to all AIA members- The Friday, October 15th Meeting of the Grand Canyon Chapter will be a special presentation on the South rim of the Grand Canyon. Morgan O’Connor, Environmental Director of the Grand Canyon Railway, will talk about the innovative sustainable projects the railway and the Concessionaire of the Grand Canyon are undertaking to tread more lightly on the earth. In his two years at the GCR, Morgan has developed, implemented, and maintained environmental strategies and programs aimed at reducing the GCR’s carbon footprint. .We will have a scrumptious dinner overlooking the beautiful Grand Canyon, which is paid by AIA Grand Canyon Chapter for all AIA Arizona members. We will meet in the Thunderbird lodge at 5:00pm on Friday October 15th. Please RSVP to Holly at hjaleski@gmail.com by October 7th. This announcement is being sent early to give you an opportunity to make reservations at the canyon hotels and make a weekend out of it. The Canyon will be displaying its fall colors. Thursday,September 2nd Meeting of the AIA Grand Canyon Chapter- CEU presentation from Lutron – 5:30pm, Weatherford Hotel-Flagstaff. This presentation will also give Credential Maintenance Program credits for LEED-AP’s so come get a credit for two professions at once! Food provided. Lumberyard Brewing Company Taproom and Tavern Tour

Please join us for a tour and tasting at the new Lumberyard Taproom and Grill! This restaurant and brewery is scheduled to receive the 2010 Coconino County Sustainable Building Award and includes many sustainable features such as: City reclaimed water used for landscape needs, repaired and reused original building trusses, roof metal and old lumber was re- purposed for the bar and dining area and water saving toilets and urinals installed in the bathrooms. Other important sustainable features include the use of local contractors and local products. Tour will be provided by Architect Ryan Smith and owner Winnie Hanseth.

Cost is $5 for members of USGBC-Arizona Chapter and $10 for non-members. Please RSVP to Holly by Wednesday June 9th, at

Monthly Meeting-April 9th in Flagstaff

We will meet Friday April 9th at 12N. in the Weatherford Hotel mezzaine, 23 N. Leroux, for a lunch and learn. The Wood Institute will give a presentation on the new wood standards and provide a delicious lunch. This presentation provides 1 hour of CEU credits. Friday, March 12, 2010-AIA Grand Canyon Chapter presents a tour of the Ecosa Institute in Prescott Arizona. Tony Brown and Tom Hahn will provide a brief tour of the facilities and give a presentation on Regenerative and Ecological design. Join us for a very informative afternoon. We will meet at the Firehouse Kitchen, 218 W. Goodwin St. (in the Old Firehouse station) at 12 Noon for lunch (AIA members and affiliates eat free)and then walk to the Ecosa facility after lunch. If you cannot make lunch you can meet us at the restaurant about 1pm to walk over to the Ecosa Institute for the tour and talk. Hope to see you all there!

Charlie Gohman from the Arizona Dept. of Commerce’s Energy Efficiency office will conduct a very informative talk on his decades of experience making buildings more energy efficient.
